Who’s Brooke?

Hello, there. So, who is Brooke? To be completely honest, I’m still figuring out who I am as I see the answer to this question as ever evolving.

I am originally from Washington state and joined the military right out of high school. Never athletic or considered to have an “athletic build” it seemed counterintuitive for me to join something that required such endurance and strength. I spent 5 years in the service, married and had a child. After traveling all around the world we settled back in Washington state.

My chapter then shifted to being a stay-at-home mom, homeschooling, volunteering and supported my husband through multiple deployments. (We joke that we stayed married for so long because we always had many breaks.) When my daughter was still young I was diagnosed with with Lupus Nephritis. I spent many years at first kinda ignoring this because I just wanted to be “normal”. But, what is normal?

Each year I would learn more how to embrace & accept living with a chronic illness. Understanding the chronic fatigue, brain fog, joint pains, and taking medications correctly was so important. Finding a physical practice or exercise that I could do even on a flare day was a challenge. Then I found yoga.

I kept stepping on the mat until I was drawn to go a little deeper and take yoga teacher training in 2022. It was a huge step outside my comfort zone but it was so worth it.

I never looked back from that initial teacher training as I continued my learning

However, no matter how much learning a teacher has it is most important to find the right teacher for you. My main philosophy is that a yoga pose should be used to get into the body instead of using the body to get into the yoga pose. I try to plan all my classes with this moto in mind. I may not be the teacher for everyone but I appreciate all who check out my classes or just drop in. All are welcome and I hope to see you on the yoga journey with me soon.
